The STAR program has been very helpful to me; prior to coming here I had no knowledge of computers. Since being here I have gained a basic knowledge of the operation of computers. I have learned how to get where I need to go to find what I’m looking for.

The program has also taught me a lot about basic life skills. It prepares us for job searching along with the way we should present ourselves. It has taught us how to be professional and present ourselves that way when job searching.

I will always be grateful to have had the opportunity to go through this program. It has been a learning experience of a lifetime.

When I first started at STAR I thought it was going to be just a computer class. But it was not that. In this class we learned life skills that opened our eyes on how to set goals, save money and see a dream come true. I have learned a lot of new things that I may never have learned otherwise. This has been one of the most rewarding and gratifying experiences of my life. The instructors have warm hearts and open minds and are genuinely concerned about where we go after this program. They have given us the determination to go after what we want in life. They encouraged, motivated and inspired me with their dedication.

I am now applying for jobs that I would never have considered before. I have more self-confidence and a better attitude towards myself. The STAR Foundation has taught me to never give up on my dreams and never to sell myself short. Everyone is capable of bettering themselves or their situation. All you have to do is believe.

In the beginning, the STAR program was just an obligation I had to fulfill in order to complete a housing requirement. After a week or two, it became more than an obligation. I enjoyed the friendships that I made and the computer programs that I learned, but more importantly, I loved the type of person that I was becoming after being in this program.

I have had many obstacles in my path this year – especially in the past three months. There were times when I didn’t want to get up to come to class, but because of my teachers and classmates, I improved tremendously. And for that, I just want to say “thank you” and “I appreciate every one of you.”

I enjoyed attending the STAR program because of the enthusiasm of the teachers. Watching their positive attitude motivated me in my low self-esteem. They helped me realize that I can strive to have the best in life if I continue to put forth effort and move forward. The training programs and the teachers’ hands-on support helped me see that I could really do it. Attending this program changed my attitude of disappointment and discouragement into a positive one of knowing what’s important.

The STAR Foundation has meant the world to me. It has opened many doors and taught me so much and allowed me to know many new people. Before I started the class, I had an idea of what I wanted in life but not enough motivation to know where to start. Mrs. Katie taught me just where to start. I also knew I wanted to set a better example for my children. At STAR, I was taught failure isn’t an option and to never give up. When I started, my self esteem was so low I was one big depressed mess. Now I feel on top of the world and I know I can do anything and no one can tear me down in any manner.

I thought when I came to STAR Foundation I would only learn about computers and go on my merry way. I never imagined knowing the skills I now have.

It is my pleasure and great honor to be able to write a letter of support for such a profound program. The STAR Foundation is a blessing for people like me who would never have been able to afford computer classes of such high quality. I have seen this program work wonders, not only in my life, but in many other lives as well.

A program can only be as good as the people behind it and for that reason this program will go far. The staff at the STAR Foundation is priceless. I could not have found a more committed, inspiring and affectionate group of people. They have touched and continue to touch my life in so many positive ways. When I first started the program I was a single mother of two, living in public housing and not able to obtain stable employment. I was embraced and encouraged daily by this wonderful group of people who let me know I did not have to give up; I could still achieve my goals in life. For that I am eternally grateful.

Today, I am still a single mother of two, but with a great paying job to support my family and almost a college degree. I am buying my current home and am getting ready to close on my second home at the end of the month.

So as you can see, this program is not only giving people an education, but it is also giving people a chance to forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future.
